CELEBRATE 100th ANNIVERSARY of FATIMA May 13, 2017 marked the 100th Anniversary of the Blessed Mother appearing to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta Maria were visited by the Holy Virgin and asked to “say the rosary every day to bring peace to the world and an end to war” and to offer up sacrifices and prayers for the conversion of sinners. Mary appeared to these humble children for six consecutive months revealing many things to them. It was on October 13, 1917 (Miracle of the Sun) that the thousands who gathered together experienced God’s presence in a very vivid way when the sun danced across the sky for all to see. The message of Fatima is still important today and the rosary is a true gift that unites us with our Holy Mary the Mother of God. It was at Fatima where the prayer: “Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy” was given by Mary as a means to intercede in a particular way for the salvation of souls in dire need. As we celebrate this holy moment in history that lives on, may we enter into the call of those simple shepherd children to pray, sacrifice, and offer our lives in union with our Lady’s for the salvation of souls and the glory of God. During his trip to Portugal for the centenary of the Fatima Marian apparitions, Pope Francis canonized visionaries Francisco (St. Francisco of Fatima) and Jacinta Marto (St. Jacinta of Fatima), making them the youngest non-martyrs to ever be declared saints. The children were canonized during Pope Francis' May 13, 2017 Mass in Fatima.
